Although a practicing Zen Buddhist, I do not exclude myself from any religion. This can be a difficult concept to understand for some people, but Buddhism, especially Zen, is not exclusive. In many ways it is not a religion, but much more and much less at the same time. I was raised in a Catholic family and have practiced many of the holy days for most of my life. Lent is a great opportunity to synergize my practice. I have not been attending the temple for meditation as much as I did in the past. I will resume meditation on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I also took a small break from vegetarianism. I am resuming vegetarianism but adding a fast as well. The fast will cause me to limit my portions, requiring more mindful eating—plants have lives too and we must be thankful. I am going to attempt to fall asleep at 12 at the latest and wake at 6. I am to begin and end each day with Yoga. My last lenten vow is to communicate my love and gratefulness to every being who brightens my life. So much love gets lost in translation, which is doubly frustrating for someone who studies language. I hope everyone of you on tumblr understands I care for you and your presence on this network is greatly appreciated. Namaste, Friends!
